A Northern girl in Southern Europe in search of an ultimate attitude

FREE IVAN GOLUNOV

A post is 2 months old but I am saving it here nonetheless

Back in June I wrote a huge text about what kind of meaning this fabricated case has not just for Russia but for the whole world as well. But gladly I did not have a reason to post it anymore one day later- the case was closed for not having any proof of Ivan being guilty.

For those who doesn’t know, around 4-5 days ago an investigation journalist Ivan Golunov was stopped by Moscow police in the street for no reason. The officers implemented a pack of drugs in his bag and accused him of being a drug dealer. Ivan was refused in calling his lawyer, getting an expertise of his skin and fingernails to find if he was using any drugs, he was beaten up (which resulted in a concussion and a broken ribcage) and refused to get any medical help. An honest journalist, a colleague and a friend of many was writing about corruption cases in which were involved not just the politics but also the secret agents.

We all went through different stages in these days: from uncontrollable fury to tears, from being scared to feeling that this is the time when you need to push harder. It all became possible just because people started talking. And who would have thought that such turnout is possible in Russia, where many journalists are behind bars on fabricated cases or just dead.

The names of those who asked to arrest them are not made public yet. But for now, this is already a victory in Russia - a person who’s innocent is out of jail.

We are all Ivan Golunov. #iamivangolunov
