Mixing sex with football

Один мой знакомый как-то резонно заявил, что секс с едой мешать нельзя. Он экспертно это прочавкал, доедая вторую порцию курицы с сыром, сидя в нашей общажной столовой. 

Видимо, с футболом секс тоже нельзя смешивать – во всяком случае, так решили в России.

Ежедневно я встречаю по 5-6 статей или публикаций, спекулирующих на тему того, как наши неблагодарные российские девушки безвозвратно «поступаются своей честью» на протяжении нескольких недель. FIFA 2018 привез в города РФ не только пробки, повышенные тарифы в Uber и более длинные очереди побитых фанатов в больницах, но и дополнительную дозу тестостерона: иностранных мужчин (преимущественно) со всевозможным цветом волос, кожи, глаз и других качеств. Только дело оказалось не во внешности.

Я не буду уходить в дебри «а давайте сравним/а кто лучше/а что наши ребята делают не так». Мне не совсем понятно, почему эта ситуация часто низводится до чего-то личного: мол, мужская половина у нас слишком непассионарна, а женская – развязна и продажна. Но тут мне очень бы хотелось обратить внимание на важную вещь.

Половина?

Давайте обратимся к статистике. Мы так любим вспомнить про 10 девчонок и 9 ребят, что у нас это считается за остроумную шутку, когда, по сути, это практически правда. Так уж сложилось, что в России изначально рождается больше мальчиков, но этот перевес сравнивается к тому моменту, когда мужчины достигают 34 лет – после весы склоняются в сторону девушек. Женщин в РФ больше на 7% или на 11млн. Вы представляете себе, что эти 11 млн одиноких женщин делают? Я вот нет.

Прежде чем кричать «да за болельщиками они бегают!» посмотрим на пример с Индией или Китаем, где значительный перевес как раз на мужской стороне: тут и «политика одного ребенка», и мнение, что «дочь в семье – к несчастью», и нелегальные аборты на поздних сроках, и пр. Это действительно трагедия с первого взгляда – десятки миллионов одиноких людей, скорее, так и останутся без пары. С другой стороны, это объясняет высокий интерес восточных мужчин к женщинам из других стран. Стоит ли их осуждать за это? Нет, это нормальное стремление к демографическому равновесию.

Вообще, достаточно просто открыть учебник по экономике и почитать про спрос и предложение. Давайте повыбираем товар на рынке. Когда спрос превышает предложение, цена на продукт растет (не обязательно при этом, соответствуя качеству). Как только на рынке появляется качественная альтернатива (и при этом, в значительном количестве), цена на первичный товар снижается, спрос распределяется более равномерно (это совсем на пальцах и при идеальном раскладе). Не зря эта тема идет вкупе с описанием моделей конкуренции. Но в нашей стране слишком часто встречается монополия, даже если это монополия на честь и духовные скрепы. Поэтому вместо повышения конкурентоспособности, многие выбирают порицание уровня нравственности. Не привыкли мы к здорово функционирующему рынку.

«Но это же другое! Ты про невозможность найти себе семейного партнера говоришь, а мы про то, что русские женщины – объективно, *****» хором заявляют комментарии к статьям и даже некоторые мои, на первый взгляд, образованные друзья. 

И я решила снова пошарить по исследованиям. Упаси Боже, найти какую-нибудь официальную статистику на русском о среднем количестве половых партнеров у женщин и мужчин в России. Зато на других языках, пожалуйста. И вы знаете, дорогие эксперты, что наши девушки, согласно этой статистике на общем фоне совсем не выбиваются в лидеры? Они даже из середнячка не выходят, честно говоря. Я специально не буду уточнять, кто «больше», а кто «меньше» - в свете истерии последней недели нет ничего хуже, чем тыкать пальцем в кого-то другого.

Ну и что же это значит?

А значит это, что все стереотипы о любви русских женщин к промискуитету, видимо, происходят из каких-то личных историй, но никак не из общего тренда.  Причем подобное отношение еще и прочно подкрепляется всякими заявлениями чиновников, рассуждениями о телегонии и мифической бесплодности, на которую обречена женщина, превысившая отметку в определенное количество партнеров. Официальные заявления лишь создают благодатную почву для массового гнобления, не будучи при этом ничем подкрепленными. Какая в этом выгода для правительства – это уже отдельная история.

Счастье в том, что мы живем в глобальном мире. И пока из телевизора вещают одно, мы держим в руках смартфон. Можно сколько угодно рассуждать о том, что «в других странах не так/да те же бразильцы так к своим девушкам не относятся/да все знают, какие у нас женщины», но мы используем соцсети, новостные сайты, переписываемся с иностранными друзьями и путешествуем. Давно прошли времена железного занавеса, массово «невыездных» и разговоров о том, что в зарубежных странах люди ходят с песьими головами. Эти самые люди отвоевывают свое право на секс, на любовь с противоположным или своим полом, на адекватное половое просвещение (а не «лучшая контрацепция – это все-таки воздержание), на аборты, потому что это нормально – распоряжаться своим телом самостоятельно, и зарубежное сообщество все больше это доказывает. 

Ну а если добрая половина населения страны до сих пор видит женское (да и мужское) тело как валюту – видят они это через собственную призму. И вот за это мне их жаль. Потому что жить в вечной паранойе тяжело.

Знаете, что самое парадоксальное в этом? Как говорят «если мы это сейчас обсуждаем – то уже поздно». Снежный ком, мол, уже покатился

Are you allowed to mix sex with football? Apparently, not – at least not in Russia.

I really thought I could pass on this theme. At least because everyone seems to talk about it so much that it starts losing all the sense. Nonetheless, the obscurantism level does not go down.

Every day I read about 5-6 articles or posts that speculate on how ungrateful Russian women "lose their dignity" by sleeping with foreign FIFA fans. This summer the World Cup Championship brought traffic jams to my native country, increased Uber tariffs and waiting lines of beaten fans in the hospitals. Although, let’s not forget about a significant extra dose of testosterone: foreign men (mostly) with all sorts of skin and hair color, eyes, body types and other qualities. But as it turned out their popularity was not about the appearance after all.

Should I say that it led to a standard gender stereotypes conflict: Russian men are bad-mannered, non-passionate, archaic and not so handsome while Russian women are promiscuous, mercantile and seeking for the smallest opportunity to marry any foreigner they can find. Seriously, are we still in the 80s?

I will not go into the opinion jungle as I do not quite understand why this situation is reduced to something personal. But I would really like to pay some attention to an important thing.

Let's look at our statistics. A famous Russian song says that there are only 9 guys for each 10 girls. While it is seen as a folklore anecdote, in reality it is practically true. According to the numbers, initially there are more boys born annually than girls in Russia. This misbalance starts to change at the age of 34 when the number of women becomes prevailing. Why so? Hard physical work, early alcoholism, high stress levels connected with military service lead to the male mortality. As a result, there are 7% more women than men in the Russian Federation… or 11 million. Can you imagine what those 11 million of single women are doing? Neither can I.

Take India or China, for example, where the considerable number advantage is on the male side. It is a result of the "one child policy", an outdated opinion that "the daughter in the family is a bad omen", and a high rate of illegal abortions on late stages. That is a real tragedy if you look at it closely - tens of millions of single people will likely remain without a couple. There is no need to explain why the dating services and agencies promising to find you a foreign bride are so popular there: the interest of Oriental men towards women from other countries significantly increased. Should the guys be blamed for this? No, it is a normal desire to seek for the demographic balance.

Actually, any Economics textbook will explain it to you through the rule of demand and supply. Yes, let’s compare people to the meat on the market. When the demand level exceeds the supply one, the prices go higher (which does not guarantee that the quality does). As soon as a new alternative appears on the market (especially in the big quantities like foreign fans), the price of the above product has to go down so that the demand is distributed more evenly (if we are talking about a healthy economy, of course). Simply speaking, nobody will keep buying overrated products if you can get the alternative ones of the same quality at a reasonable price. After all, this topic goes along with the discussion on models of competition for some reason. However, as some may know, there are quite a few monopolies in Russia, so it is rather predictable that we have a monopoly even on the female honor and spiritual bonds. So instead of increasing the competition rates, many choose to condemn the moral levels. We are not accustomed to a healthy functioning market in my country.

Now Internet trolls and even some deceptively educated friends would tell me here "But this is different! You talk about the inability to find a family partner, and we are talking about the fact that Russian women are objectively slutty".

 
So I came back to the research results again. God forbid to find some official Russian statistics on the average amount of sexual partners both for women and men. Fortunately, there are many international researches on this. And you know what, dear experts? Sadly, our girls are not leading these charts compared to the general background. They do not even come out of the middle group, to be honest. 

Well, what does this mean?

It means that all the stereotypes about Russian female promiscuity, apparently, come from some painful personal experience, but not from the general trend. Most certainly, this attitude is firmly encouraged by our officials’ statements on the news, politicians calling the telegony a scientific fact and promising infertility to women that exceed a certain amount of sexual partners in their lives. Such statements create a ground for mass gender hatred, without any logic reasons whatsoever. What is the benefit in this for the government? It is a separate story.

We are lucky to live in a global world. While the television spits out clear propaganda, we are holding a smartphone in our hands. And while hearing "the foreign cultures are corrupted/those Brazilians do not treat their girls like that/everyone already knows what kind of women we have" - we use social media, news sites, text to our friends abroad and keep travelling. Long gone are the Iron Curtain times, massive restriction on trips to other countries and thinking that Australians are walking upside down. Now we can see that “those foreigners” fight for their right to have sex, to love any gender they pick, to get an adequate sexual education (not the famous Russian "the best way not to get pregnant is not to have any encounters”), to get an abortion. Because it's normal - to control your own body yourself. So if a big part of Russian population still sees a female (and male) body as a currency - they see it through their own dogma. And that's why I feel sorry for them. Because it is extremely hard to live in the eternal paranoia.

Do you know what is the biggest paradox of this? As the journalists say "if we are discussing it now, it's already too late." The snowball, it seems, is rolling down the hillside too fast.
