What I do daily
in Southern Italy and I don’t do in Russia:
- Have just a cup
of coffee and something sweet for breakfast. Porridges, oatmeal, scrambled
eggs, and pancakes are not taken seriously here - it's the kind of food that suits countries with a colder climate. The phrase “breakfast is the most
important meal of the day” here seems to be from a different world. When
locals tell you "let’s have a breakfast out" it mostly means that you
will take a cup of coffee and a croissant or a sfogliatella (Neapolitan pastry
with citrus cream) at a local bar.
- I lower the
iron shutters at night, and raise them first thing in the morning. The
shutters save you from the sun (and the extra looks as well, given that my
neighbors’ balconies are located 3 meters across from my window). Curtains
are not considered a necessity here, but they still do exist as a decoration in
many houses.
